About Me
Oh, Hello There
I’m Charlie Kitcat and I’ve worked for five years as a freelance writer. Sure, for four of those it was on the side, but I was pretty busy working for global clients in travel, sport and tech at one of London’s biggest PR firms (you can have a look at my CV here).
Now I’ve gone solo and I’m happy to find a focus. And it’s one I’m very excited about.
Not just because now I spend my day writing, building my understanding about the intricacies of the ever-changing travel sphere and meeting some of the most industry's most knowledgeable and interesting people.
But also because the travel industry embodies so much of what we — as those who've chosen to go into the industry — love so much. Sure, travel is learning about new cultures, eating new foods and relaxing on different beaches. But two things that always stand out on an new adventure is meeting new people and adapting fast to a strange environment.
Truthfully, I can't think of any industries that have had to cope with rapid transformation at such a scale over the last few years. All while maintaining relationships with loyal customers and evolving to suit new ones. The influencer boom, global warming, remote working. Oh, and a pandemic… That's a lot.
That's why I'm here. I’m lucky enough to have visited over fifty countries, I love writing about travel and I love meeting those who do as well. I'm particularly inspired by those who have managed to translate the skills they’ve learned travelling the world into successful careers and businesses.
But beyond it all, we all know the importance and beauty of a great trip. And frankly, I want to inspire as many people to take the leap as possible. By working with the best in the travel business, I believe, together, we have the ultimate chance of achieving it.
Outside of work? Well, if I’m not in a plane, train or automobile you can find me in a few different places. At a desk, for one (don’t worry). Aside from that, I might be getting hit for six on the cricket field with a team I co-founded, the Dell Boys. I might be immersed in a good travel book, or, on particularly out-of-hand evenings, I might be practicing my Mongolian throat singing in an obscure London pub.

If you’re watching CNN you might even catch me on an episode of Parts Unknown in Vietnam... You know that moment Obama and Anthony Bourdain are talking about world peace in a small restaurant eating noodle soup? Look out for the guy with the terrible haircut and Coors Light t-shirt coping terribly with chopsticks (36.34, really). And I’ll tell you a secret, I still don’t have the knack.
Things I love:
-
The moment hot holiday air hits as you get off the plane
-
The sound of a cricket ball hitting the bat
-
The moment when the lights go down before a performance
Things I don’t:
-
Being asked to pay for excessive hand luggage weight
-
Having to pay for excessive hand luggage weight
-
Writing about having to pay for excessive hand luggage weight
